Have you ever heard of Eris?
If not, this is going to catch your interest.
Eris is a dwarf planet located in the Kuiper Belt, which is a very distant region of our solar system, beyond the planet Neptune. It’s a cosmic ring that holds some of the oldest, coldest and most mysterious objects known to science.
Maybe you’ve never heard of Eris before, but her presence and story, both mythic and astronomical, hold deep significance for all of us alive today.
But Who Is Eris?
I’m sure you’ve heard about the Trojan War, right?
Remember, that movie with Brad Pitt and all the epic battles?
Well, what you might not know is that Eris played
a very important role in how it all began.
The dwarf planet Eris is named after the Greek goddess of strife, discord, and disruption and, as you might guess, she comes with quite the reputation.
But there’s more to Eris than just stirring up trouble!
She reveals what happens when we ignore the uncomfortable.
In the myth, there was a grand wedding celebration on Mount Olympus (home of the Greek gods and goddesses). Everyone was invited... except Eris!
She had a habit of causing chaos, so they left her off the guest list.
But of course, that didn’t stop her.
She showed up anyway, and threw a golden apple into the crowd,
inscribed with the words:
"To the fairest."
Three powerful goddesses claimed it: Hera, Athena & Aphrodite.
Zeus, wisely refusing to get involved in that debate, handed the task to a mortal:
Paris of Troy.
Each goddess offered him a tempting bribe:
“Pick me,” said Hera. “I’ll give you power beyond your wildest dreams.”
“No, pick me,” said Athena. “I’ll gift you wisdom and victory in every battle.”
“Forget them,” said Aphrodite. “If you choose me, I’ll give you the most beautiful woman in the world.”
And that’s exactly what Paris chose, the most beautiful woman alive:
Helen of Troy.
Just one problem: Helen was already married.
But with Aphrodite’s help, Paris took her anyway.
And just like that… the Trojan War began.
It’s easy to blame Eris and to paint her as the one who sparked the chaos.
But Eris didn’t create the conflict. She revealed it.
By tossing that golden apple, she exposed what was already happening beneath the surface: vanity, rivalry, pride, and ego.
She didn’t start the war, she simply held up the mirror.
Myth Reflects Sky: The Astronomy of Eris
Now let’s zoom out, way out, to space.
When astronomers discovered Eris in 2005, they realized she was slightly more massive than Pluto and this led to a major question:
If Pluto is a planet… shouldn’t Eris be one too?
That question sparked a major shake-up in the astronomical community.
Eventually, the definition of a planet was rewritten and in the process, Pluto lost its planetary status.
Now both Pluto and Eris were classified as dwarf planets.
Just like in the myth, Eris disrupted the system, not for the sake of destruction,
but in the name of clarity & truth.
She didn’t "diminish" Pluto, that was not her intention.
But by showing up, she simply exposed the inconsistencies that were already there.
The Evolutionary Force of Eris
Eris is not about comfortable truths.
She represents what has been ignored, suppressed, or hidden in shadow.
And with Eris in Aries since the 1920s, almost everyone alive today carries this imprint. On a collective level, this means we’re here to challenge corrupt and outdated systems.
We’re here to speak the difficult, inconvenient truths that must be acknowledged.
And sometimes, refusing to “play nice” just to keep the peace isn’t noble, it’s avoidance. In moments like these, that refusal is not only justified,
it’s absolutely necessary.
Eris in Aries: Fierce Feminine in a Masculine World
Aries is a bold, masculine energy of action, initiation & willpower.
Eris in Aries brings feminine truth into this masculine domain.
Not soft or subdued, but fierce, unapologetic, and catalytic.
She comes to dismantle man-made systems that have long told us:
Men are more valuable than women
Power belongs only to the loudest
Worth is tied to dominance, conquest, hierarchy or status
This is a feminine archetype that isn’t quiet or graceful, but one that brings radical integrity and disruptive honesty. She doesn’t conform, she confronts.
What Does Eris Mean for You?
To understand her influence personally, look to the house where Eris is in your birth chart. This is where you are meant to speak your truth, even if it causes friction or disrupts the status quo.
Even if it ruffles some feathers or breaks a few (or many) eggs.
And if Eris is making strong aspects to your Sun, Moon, angles, or other planets, her message is even louder:
Where are you being called to disrupt illusions?
What truth are you here to expose, even if it’s unpopular?
Can you stand alone in your integrity, even if it creates waves?
In Conclusion
For all of us, Eris teaches that not all chaos is destruction.
Sometimes, chaos is the sacred stir that clears up space for
something more honest and authentic to emerge.
If you’ve never explored Eris in your chart, now is a powerful time to ask yourself:
Where am I called to challenge what no longer serves me &
speak the truth that sets it free?
